The Help

The Help by Kathryn Stockett is a book I would recommend for you to read. It's sad at some points, hilarious at others and VERY engaging. The story revolves around the era of racism in the U.S and tells the story of three main characters. I started reading three days ago and still not done from the book but i can tell you that you'll absolutely love it.

The Memoirs of Frank McCourt

Two books that should not be missed by memoirs lovers are Angela's Ashes and 'Tis: A Memoir. These two books got me engaged all night and day! I simply could not stop myself from wanting more. The author is very honest and has a very unique way of story telling which made these two books international bestsellers.

Title: Angela's Ashes
Author: Frank McCourt
Type: Memoir
ISBN: 0-00-721703-X

In Angela's Ashes, Frank McCourt speaks about his life as a child that was born in New York and raised in the lanes of Ireland. He also speaks about the obstacles that faced him as a child and his family, how he developed a love for reading and writing, and the sins he committed. Finally, he speaks of how he got to achieve his dream to leave Ireland and travel to New York. This book has the potential to make you cry, not only because of the tragedies that the author went through, but also because of the author's honesty.

Title: 'Tis: A Memoir
Author: Frank McCourt
Type: Memoir
ISBN: 0-00-722184-3

In 'Tis: A Memoir, the author speaks of his life in New York; how he managed to dig his way out of obstacles and hard times, his experiences in the war, how did he manage to complete his education without even attending high school and finally achieving his dream to become a teacher and a writer. He also mentioned bits of his teaching experience, which were funny to me since teachers are still facing what he faced. I found some parts about the war a bit disturbing; however the rest of the book is great!

Another book by Frank McCourt is Teacher Man: A Memoir, however i did not get my hands on that one yet!

The First Book in my Bookshelf

Title: In the Name of Honour
Author: Mukhtar Mai
Type: Memoir
ISBN: 978-1-84408-483-8

In the Name of Honour is a book that I recommend for light and inspirational reading. The story revolves around a young Pakistani woman ( Mukhtar Mai ) fighting in a male dominated country to gain justice not only for her, but also for all the Pakistani women who are suffering from the brutality of men and illitracy. A very inspirational and moving story that got me stirred and filled with different emotions.
